The article is devoted to the analysis of such phenomenon as deepfake in the context of its application in the political sphere from the point of view of manipulation of society. First of all, the authors reveal the essence of the phenomenon of disinformation by conducting a brief historical retrospective. Then they defi ne the concept of “deepfake” and explain how this technology works from both technical and cognitive points of view.

One of the most urgent and at the same time strategically important areas of state development of modern Russia is demographic policy aimed at increasing the birth rate in the country. Despite the use of various measures of social and material incentives for childbearing, the problem of demographic crisis caused by the extremely low population growth still remains unresolved.

The article is devoted to the disclosure of certain aspects of the use of documentary movie as a tool to promote political ideas in modern conditions of development of information and network communications. We consider the classical and innovative techniques, methods and forms of attracting the audience’s attention to documentaries; methods of distribution, advertising, promotion of documentary films; mechanisms that enhance the propaganda effect of movies.
