On the basis of the results of the sociological study of Saratov residents (n = 1200 respondents), conducted by the method of the Internet questionnaire, it is shown that charity in Russia today is a very significant social institution that continues the social policy of the state. It performs a variety of important functions and, unlike the state, quickly responds to the changes taking place in society, eff ectively solves problems, especially at the local and regional levels. Therefore, it is positively perceived by society.
