The aims of the work are: to consider the dynamics of socio-economic development, to analyze the place of the military-industrial complex in the growth of economic and social indicators, to assess the influence of the defense industry in solving problems in the fi eld of defense capability, to identify the mechanisms of this infl uence, to evaluate the impact of military spendings on increasing industrial performance. The methods of comparative analysis, content analysis and expert opinion were used.

This article considers the current problems of development and innovation activities in the Russian Federation and the need to transfer the Russian manufacturing sector to modern high-tech rails. However, despite the fact that the country's top leadership emphasizes the course of innovative development as having no alternative, the relevant ministries, large state and non-state corporations, hinder implementation activities or imitate them still play an important role.

The article deals with the military-industrial complex as an important factor of stability of social system of the state. Particular attention is paid to the basic elements and concepts in the field of defense industry.
