In this article, the authors, relying on the thesis of the inextricable link between theoretical models and practical tasks of the course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood”, identifi ed some theoretical and methodological problems characteristic of modern educational materials. In particular, the article critically evaluates the methodological approach to understanding and interpreting the state solely as a power institution, while the main message of the new academic discipline is to instill in the younger generation the idea that the Russian state is one of the most traditional and signifi cant Russian values. The focus of this course on using “advanced research achievements” in studying the socio-political process based on the synthesis of knowledge from many humanities and social sciences is also controversial, as it often leads to a fragmented and eclectic approach to teaching. The theoretical and methodological reliance on the concept of the “state-civilization” as a justifi cation for the special political and cultural code of Russian citizens also requires clarifi cation.
