The article is devoted to the problem of sociological research of the social intolerance phenomenon. Historically, the social intolerance phenomenon has always been a constant element of social life. The boundary between intolerance as an element of social life in the processes of institutionalization of social groups and the lack of tolerance in its destructive forms is so ephemeral that it is very difficult to define. At present, the problem of the social intolerance level in modern Russian society and the processes taking place in this sphere are very significant. On the one hand, the consolidation of social peace implies the reduction of ethnic, religious and political discord. On the other hand, in the face of ideological cultural expansion and anarchy, it is necessary to strengthen social immunity against unacceptable and deviant forms of social behavior.This situation involves the search for the ways for establishing the stability of society, one of which is the identification and realization of the opportunities to stop the processes triggering intolerance in its extreme forms, which updates the study of the social intolerance phenomenon foundations and content.
